Eastern Oregon CANN Chapter

Eastern Oregon COFA & Other Pacific Islander group works to ensure that our communities in rural Oregon are able to learn and know their rights, have the knowledge of resources available to them and know how to access them in ways where barriers are eliminated. The organizational structure includes four elected officers and an advisory board composed of two representatives of each island within the Micronesian region.

Island representative/cultural advisers are an essential part of the organization and serve as part of the extended leadership. There will be two (2) representatives per island.  Their roles include,
A. Acting as a sounding board for the officers and provide expertise as language consultants when needed as well as help in effectively communicating with the team and other partners about the unique cultural and linguistic backgrounds of our communities.
B. Helping identify and inform on culturally specific needs and barriers that impact our community members and share ideas on best practices within the community that may help address the needs.
C. Identifying cultural processes and cultural differences that impact opportunities for our community and ways to enhances identity, cultural validity, and a sense of belonging for our people in Union County.
D. Adding a cultural lens to the work we are doing with partners and outside agencies that may not have the cultural competence to work with our communities.
E. Making connections between the CANN, EO CANN, and other partners to our community when needed to ensure our community members continue to thrive and there is overall community success.
