Position Title: Social Media Writer
Reports To: CANN Board
Duration: Limited Duration 12 months with possibility for extension
Job Type: Student Job, Non-qualified stipend
Location: Online

Hours and Stipend: $100 per month for general availability, not to exceed 110 hours/12 month period.

The COFA Alliance National Network (CANN) is looking for an organized, motivated student to provide a continued presence on our Social Media Platforms.

The ideal candidate is results-oriented, knowledgeable of the COFA communities, fluent English speaker, and writer, and have at least 1 year of experience with all the common social media platforms.

CANN (COFA Alliance National Network) is an Oregon based non-profit organization that is dedicated to advocating for the people of the three Pacific Island nations that have a unique Compact or treaty with the United States. The treaty is called the Compact of Free Association. The primary goal of the organization is to seek social and economic justice under the law for all COFA residents in Oregon and throughout the 50 states and its territories. The three COFA nations are The Republic of Palau, The Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Federated States of Micronesia.

Student Job Description and Responsibility:

The Social Media Writer is responsible for receiving media and text regarding current CANN events, from CANNs staff and board members, and publish them as Social Media posts on CANNs Social Media Platforms.

Postings must be:

  • Fluent English
  • Objectively Informational
  • Culturally sensitive
  • Suitable length for each platform
  • Clearly formulated
  • Grammatically correct

The ideal candidate will have strong written English skills, in-depth knowledge of all Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Google+, YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest), proven organizational skills and attention to detail and a minimum of some college coursework. Preferably, the candidate will be a member of the COFA Islander communities or have an in-depth understanding of and connection with the COFA community.
